I was interviewed for an article by Kirsten Grind of the Seattle Times about how to update your home to sell in a slow market.
Every house is different, of course, so it's hard to give a one-answer-fits-all, but generally, get the house as clean as possible. Just like you would clean your car before selling it, the same goes for your house. Take care of any deferred maintainance, and all clutter. Though this is common sense, you'd be surprised at how many people don't do even these simples things.
